How one person supported by Dignus Group turned her personal pain into a powerful purpose to support mental health.
At Dignus Group, we believe in the power of brave decisions – the moments when people face challenges with courage and turn them into something life-changing.
This is exactly what Casey, one of the incredible people supported by Dignus Group, did when she took on a fundraising challenge for Mind, one of the leading mental health charities in the UK.
Her walk wasn’t just about raising money – it was about healing, hope, and helping others find strength in their own journeys.
Inspiration and Motivation
Casey’s motivation came from a deeply personal place – her own experience with mental health and the loss of her best friend to suicide.
“My inspiration came from both myself and from losing my best friend,” Casey shared.
“After doing a similar challenge in January and seeing the impact it had, I wanted to feel that same sense of pride and excitement again.”
Supporting mental health is something Casey is truly passionate about.
“Mental health needs awareness and acknowledgement. So many people are hurting and struggling, but not enough people understand the devastating impact it can have on someone’s life.”
The Challenge and the Journey
Casey’s goal was to complete 60 miles in October, but she challenged herself to go even further – both physically and emotionally.
She decided to walk, run, jog and cycle across bridges she once stood on during some of her darkest moments.
“Many years ago, I stood on those same bridges just a thought away from ending my life. This time, I ran across them – strong, proud, and determined. It was emotional, but it reminded me how far I’ve come and how hard I’ve fought to get here.”
At the beginning, Casey admits she was nervous and unsure if she could complete the challenge.
“I knew physical activity would help my mental health, but I still had doubts. Once I finished, I felt incredibly proud – because mental health is tough, and we can’t just switch it off.”
The support she received throughout her journey meant everything.
“The donations, messages and kind words from people gave me the motivation to keep going. It reminded me I wasn’t walking alone.”
Reflection and Impact
For Casey, this challenge was about more than miles – it was about reclaiming strength, honouring her friend’s memory, and showing others that recovery and hope are possible.
“I wanted to show myself how far I’ve come after some incredibly hard years. And I hope by sharing my story, someone else might recognise when a person is just a thought away from giving up – and step in to support them. Mental health isn’t just a word or a diagnosis; it’s someone’s life, their present, and their future.”
Casey’s bravery has inspired everyone at Dignus Group and beyond. Her journey is a testament to resilience, compassion, and the belief that with the right support, every person can build a better future.
Looking Ahead
At Dignus Group, we’re incredibly proud of Casey – not only for what she’s achieved, but for the courage it took to share her story.
Her journey shows what’s possible when someone is given the time, care, and belief to find their own strength again.
“Every step was a reminder that I am still here, still fighting, and still moving forward.”
Brave decisions. Better lives.
