That’s why we’re proud to celebrate the achievements of colleagues who have developed their careers through Fairway Healthcare, demonstrating the dedication, resilience and compassion that make such a difference to the people we support.
This year’s awards recognised individuals who have embraced opportunities, overcome challenges and shown what can happen when people are given the support and encouragement to grow.
Creating Opportunities That Change Lives
One of the evening’s biggest successes came through The Old Post Office, where Stevie Commins was named Outstanding Leadership in Workforce Development.
Over the last 18 months, Stevie has played a key role in helping people take their first steps into social care. Under her leadership, 24 individuals successfully completed their journey through the Academy and progressed into permanent roles, with an impressive 85% remaining with the organisation today.
More than half of the service’s workforce has come through this pathway, demonstrating not only the success of the programme but the positive culture that has been created.
Presented by Shirley Way, Head of Midlands at Skills for Care, the award recognised Stevie’s commitment to helping people develop confidence, build skills and create long-term careers in care.
Recognising Outstanding Learners
Across our services, team members were recognised for the impact they have already made in their careers.
At Chance Drive, Jade Phipps was named Learner of the Year (Sandwell) after consistently demonstrating compassion, professionalism and resilience while supporting people through challenging periods in their lives. The award was presented by Councillor Margaret Sutton, Mayor of Sandwell.
In Coventry, Mohammed Ally from Colliers took home the Learner of the Year award. Inspired by the support his own family received when his son was born prematurely, Mohammed joined the sector determined to give something back. Since joining the team, he has become known for his positive attitude, willingness to learn and genuine commitment to the people he supports. The award was presented by Bal Kaur, Employment Adviser for Coventry.
Jay Blenkinsopp-Waddy from No.39 was also recognised in the category, receiving a Highly Commended award after entering the sector at just 19 years old and quickly demonstrating maturity, initiative and a calm approach under pressure.
Meanwhile, Irene Kimberely from Chance Drive was named Walsall College Learner of the Year, recognising her dedication, reliability and commitment to putting the people she supports first. Her award was presented by Sharon Gauld, Operations Manager at Walsall College.
Supporting the Next Generation of Care Professionals
The King’s Trust Young Carer of the Year award celebrated two remarkable individuals who have shown exceptional commitment early in their careers.
Spencer London Lloyd from Highcroft House was recognised for his resilience and determination while working in one of our most complex services. Since joining Dignus at just 18 years old, he has approached every challenge as an opportunity to learn and develop.
Maame Owusu-Ansah from Chance Drive was also recognised for her compassion, patience and person-centred approach. Her dedication to supporting others and willingness to embrace learning opportunities have made her a valued member of the team.
The awards were presented by Jason Wright, King’s Trust Health and Social Care Manager.
Making a Lasting Contribution
The Outstanding Contribution to Service Award, presented by Ed Brown, Chair of the Midlands Nominated Individual’s Network for Skills for Care, was awarded to Nicolai Tungaraza from The Old Post Office.
After completing his transition through Embark and Fairway Healthcare, Nicolai quickly became a valued member of the team. His enthusiasm, positivity and genuine desire to understand the people he supports have helped him build strong relationships and make a meaningful contribution to life at the home.
His journey is a fantastic example of how investing in people can create opportunities that benefit both individuals and services.
Triumph Over Adversity
One of the most inspiring stories of the evening belonged to Bereket Woldekiros from Chance Drive, who received the Triumph Over Adversity Award, presented by Shaun Hall, Senior Delivery Manager at the West Midlands Combined Authority.
Bereket’s journey has been one of extraordinary resilience. After overcoming significant personal challenges and rebuilding his life in the UK, he joined the Academy with a determination to succeed and help others. Since then, he has secured permanent employment, built strong relationships and is already progressing towards future leadership opportunities.
His story is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact that opportunity, support and belief can have.
A Celebration of People
While the awards recognised individual achievements, they also celebrated something bigger: the power of developing people.
Whether it’s helping someone take their first steps into social care, supporting them to build confidence, or creating opportunities for long-term career progression, Fairway Healthcare continues to play an important role in strengthening our workforce and improving outcomes for the people we support.
Every winner, nominee and graduate represents what can be achieved when people are given the chance to learn, grow and succeed.
